ROD 426 is an incremental, photoelectric angle heidenhain encoder for universal application. A graduated glass disc is combined with the driving shaft by means of a rigid connection, The glass disc carries a radial grating which has been deposited by Heidenhain Diadur process. Rotation of the shaft generates two sine-wave signal trains by photoelectric scanning. These scanning signals are then amplified within the pulse shaping electronics, transformed into square wave pulses by Schmitt-Triggers and emitted via line driver-final stages. Both output signal trains, as well as the corresponding inverted signal trains, are phase shifted by 90 degrees. Depending on the evaluation of the slopes of both square-wave signal trains a quadruple, double or single evaluation can be obtained. The angle encoder ROD 426 is provided with a reference pulse. In addition to the actual radial grating the graduated disc also carries the so called reference mark, With this reference mark an additional signal pulse per revolution is generated, This pulse can be utilized to reproduce the angle position "zero" or a selected datum point, Control of stray pulses, Counting the number of revolutions of the shaft.
